What is Mindfulness

Mindfulness is part of all cultures, spiritual philosophies and religions and thus there are different definitions of mindfulness. Broadly speaking, Western-influenced definitions tend to be more cognitive-based whereas Eastern-influenced definitions are more emotion-based.

A useful way to understand mindfulness is that it is a special type of awareness – a way of paying attention in the moment with openness, curiosity and flexibility.

Mindfulness can be practiced with or without meditation.
